Queen Mathilde Mother and Child Center

On June 3, 2019, the first Jan Vertonghen Foundation Playground in a hospital was officially opened on the rooftop terrace of the Queen Mathilde Mother and Child Center. This unique playground, equipped with an interactive football wall, offers sick children an enjoyable and fun way to play, exercise, and move. The playground is specially designed to be part of rehabilitation programs for chronically ill children, focusing on oncology patients and diabetics.

The interactive football wall, featuring 16 illuminated panels and a speed radar, makes physical activity both challenging and fun. Thanks to this unique location, the young patients can enjoy the fresh outdoor air and momentarily forget their worries while playing.

The first Jan Vertonghen Foundation Playground in a hospital is located on the rooftop terrace of the Queen Mathilde Mother and Child Center at the Antwerp University Hospital (UZA). This unique center, situated on the second floor of the UZA, provides care and support to children and mothers. Thanks to the interactive Sutu football wall on the rooftop terrace, sick children have the opportunity to play, exercise, and move in a fun and stimulating way. This playground is part of the rehabilitation programs for chronically ill children, with a special focus on oncology patients and diabetics.
