The Jan Vertonghen Foundation

Years ago, I visited VUmc Kinderstad in Amsterdam and was deeply moved by the joy of seriously ill children surrounded by toys and stuffed animals.

This inspired me to launch the Jan Vertonghen Foundation during my 100th international match as a Red Devil for Belgium. The Foundation is my way of showing gratitude for the fortune I’ve had as a footballer and to give back for all the support I’ve received from Belgium throughout my career. As a father of three healthy children, I feel the need to give back to those who are less fortunate.

Thanks to the generous support of the Jan Vertonghen Foundation, beautiful playgrounds have been created in our hospital for children. By providing the opportunity to play on the rooftop or in other specially designed areas, the worries of being in the hospital are momentarily forgotten, and recovery is encouraged.

The Jan Vertonghen Foundation has made an invaluable contribution to creating a warm and welcoming environment where children can have fun and feel better, even in difficult times.
