The Jan Vertonghen Foundation is proud to partner with the University Child and Youth Psychiatry Antwerp (UKJA) to assist children and young people with psychiatric problems. Through this collaboration, we aim to improve the mental health of these children and provide them with a better future.
UKJA offers care to children aged 0 to 18, divided into three departments: Young child and family (0-5 years), Children (6-12 years), and Adolescents (12-18 years). With space for 93 residential and 45 day-treatment patients, UKJA provides comprehensive diagnostics, advice, and treatments for serious emotional, behavioral, and developmental issues such as depression, trauma, anxiety, hyperactivity, and eating disorders.
Each patient receives a personalized therapeutic plan, ranging from individual to group treatments. This includes various forms of therapy, such as art therapy, music therapy, and psychomotor therapy. Specific training, such as social skills and emotional regulation, is also offered.
Movement and sports are essential in treating mental health issues. Scientific research shows that exercise helps reduce depression and stress symptoms and increases self-confidence. Sports not only offer physical benefits but also foster social interactions that help break isolation and build a supportive network.
Thanks to the support of the Jan Vertonghen Foundation and Play Nostalgie, UKJA can use additional resources to integrate movement and sports into their treatment. This contributes to the overall health and well-being of the children and adolescents.
